Few things have the power to put us in our place like a total immersion in nature. And few places have the staggering breadth of natural diversity that exists along the Amazon. From the moment you touch down in these teeming environs you’ll find your priorities are clarified and your life returns to balance. This expedition into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon jungle provides a unique opportunity to explore one of the largest expanses of tropical rainforest in the world — and gain a deep understanding of one of the most biologically diverse regions on earth.
Guided by local, English-speaking naturalists you’ll enjoy daily excursions into the forests and up black water tributaries to hidden lagoons, magical lakes, and native villages. Every step of the way, your guide will entertain you with the history of the region, enlighten you with facts about the flora and fauna, and point out wildlife hiding in the jungle canopy, lazing on the riverbanks, or swimming in the water below.
“Dawn and dusk are the perfect times to see nature in all her glory. For this reason, most excursions occur at the edges of the day, with mid-day reserved for relaxing siestas on board.” Awaken each day to thick beams of morning sunlight breaking through the forest canopy. Sip cool beverages on deck as dugout canoes glide by carrying fresh produce to market. Hike the terra firma for up-close encounters with rare birds, extraordinary insects, and exotic mammals.
The ship Delfin III offers guests an immersive rainforest experience while simultaneously treating them to the highest levels of luxury. This brand new vessel is also the largest in the Delfin fleet, with capacity for up to 43 passengers. The ship has been beautifully finished with the finest details, hardwood floors, designer furniture, and handmade Peruvian artifacts. The itineraries have been carefully planned and are set to offer an unforgettable experience. Guests will have no shortage of up close rainforest experience and gourmet food to compliment.
Guests have the option of four room classes. On the first deck there are 8 Suites complete with floor to ceiling panoramic windows as well as 2 spacious Corner Suites facing the front of the ship. The second deck is comprised of 10 Upper Suites and the largest of all, the Owner's Suite. The top deck features beautiful indoor and outdoor lounge, a sundeck with plunge pool, a spa and gym, and of course the bar.

Health and Safety
No specific vaccination is required to enter Peru, including malaria and yellow fever.
Yellow fever is recommended though we have never heard of anyone contracting yellow fever anywhere in Peru or neighboring countries. To reference, the USA Center of Disease for travel to Peru nevertheless requires a current yellow fever vaccination for trips to rain forest regions. This vaccination is normally required or recommended for all rainforest regions around the world.
Malaria pills are recommended usually when traveling to tropical regions but the places we cruise are Malaria Free Places. No anopheles mosquitos (which are known to carry the disease) proliferate in the areas which we cruise in.
If you plan to extend your journey to Cusco and Machu Picchu, ask your doctor about medication for altitude sickness.
For more specific details, we encourage you to discuss with your doctor or check the U.S. Centers for Disease Control website for the latest information and recommendations (http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/peru).
The weather in Iquitos is warm and humid with average annual maximum temperature of 33°C (95°F) and minimum of 21°C (70°C).
The low water season is from May to November.
The high water season is from December to April.
Each season features differences in the plant and animal life as well as in the climate.
All activities are subject to change due to weather conditions and time of year. River and tributary levels may vary and thus navigation times and excursions may need to be modified at the captain’s discretion.

Excursions and itineraries are dependent on natural and weather conditions and are thus subject to change. Please let us know in advance with any questions or special requests.
Every day, we recommend getting up early to appreciate the vibrant zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Early rising is always rewarding since wildlife is most abundant and active with the rising of the sun.
Trail walks at destinations such as Fundo Casual jungle trail and others will take you deep into the rainforest on terra firme (non-flooded forest) where your guide will point out dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. A local assistant may also accompany you; these people are natives of the jungle and are able to bring you closer to different animals such as frogs, snakes, and insects.
The activity level of these walks are light; we provide rubber boots and rain ponchos in case of inclement weather.
Be sure to keep an attentive eye open for spotting surprises!

SWIMMING NEAR PINK RIVER DOLPHINS
Most of us are familiar with the fun and playful blue bottlenose dolphin named Flipper, made famous by Hollywood productions, but less people know about Flipper’s rosy-colored cousin, the pink river dolphin. This rare species is found in the freshwater rivers of the Amazon near Iquitos, Peru. Upholding the reputation of its salt water dwelling kin, the Amazon river dolphin is social, friendly and extremely intelligent, making it one of the highlights of a visit to the Amazon Basin. They also love the company of humans. When you visit the Amazon, don’t be afraid to go for a swim with these remarkable creatures. Make sure you bring your bathing suit and a waterproof camera. A snapshot of the pink river dolphin will definitely be one for the Amazon adventure scrapbook.
Bird watching enthusiasts will greatly enjoy the sheer number of diverse bird species. The Amazon is second to none when it comes to biodiversity, boasting over 1500 species of birds – that is 20% of the total number of species on the planet! The Pacaya Samiria is especially diverse having little human interference to disrupt the natural habitat.
The expeditions set out early in the morning on the skiffs in order to see the most impressive display of birds. Professional guides, accompany you and answer any questions you may have. The guides have grown up in the region and have deep knowledge of the wildlife. Whether you bring your camera or just your memory, the experience will surely not disappoint.
Exploring the jungle by day is only half the fun as the adventures continue past sundown. The groups embark on skiffs once again as they make their way back from the daytime expedition. The first thing you will notice are the sounds. The sound of the jungle at night is intense, and unlike anything you have ever experienced. Look up to the sky and you´ll find another marvel, as the star patterns are so visible and dense, it´s like peering through a window into outer space. The groups are led by our expert guides who will direct your attention to creatures which often go unseen. This is your chance to spot the black caimans, bats, frogs, and other nocturnal creatures. The night safaris are a very unique experience and one you won’t forget.
